As it was previously reported, Kanye West kicked off his Yeezus tour at Seattle’s Key Arena on Saturday night by bringing Jesus out on stage. Now, the Chicago rapper explains his theatrics.

During a recent interview with San Francisco’s Wild 94.9‘s JV Show, Kanye West explained bringing “Jesus” out on stage during his Yeezus tour opener over the weekend.

Kanye explains for the fans who thought what he did by bringing Jesus on stage was wrong:

Well, I had a friend of mine who is a pastor there as we started to discuss how we wanted to deliver it.

He adds:

My girl even asked after it, “is it weird if Jesus comes on stage?” I’m like no, “we do plays all the time, and people play Jesus.”

He continued:

You know what’s awesome about Christianity is that were allowed to portray God. We’re allowed to draw images of him, we’re allowed to make movies about him. Other religions arent allowed to do that.
