Jay-Z makes the case that hip hop should be viewed as poetry an artists like Biggie Smalls and Rakim should be respected as poets. Jay says if you took the lyrics of Biggie Small, it’s genius work.

I been saying this, and I think most hip hop heads know this and wish they could tell everyone this same ish….Lol I see Hip Hop as like a direct line of communication and is stronger than singing, since rap is closer to speech, which speech is the 2nd best form of communication behind body language.

  This reason alone is why hip hop is my favorite genre. Its fusing poetry with dope ass music. also the range of genres it can span is enormous. hip hop can be fused with anything and sound awesome if it is mixed right.

  i agree wit u 2 cuz its way past obvious 2 us TRUE hip hop heads but u gotta realize Jay reach a much wider array of people when he speak..u got dumb fucks who truly believe everything u just said outta sarcasm 2 be fact..im pretty sure those da people Jay reachin out 2 here..alot of em dont see us as bein capable of usin logic beyond a certain extent or displayin intelligence thru creativity..even if dey did open dey minds just a lil bit look at wut is bein offered in da 2 most prominent forms of media today as far as hip hop is concerned..how much of it actually fall into da category of wut Jay described above?
