I won’t provide any spoilers… but after one full listen-through, I give the album a 7.5/10. In my opinion, best rap album of the year by a clear margin so far.

        ‘Life Is Good’ was good. That was my number 1. Again, still sitting with the Lupe joint. I’ll offer my conclusion in a bit.

        No one listened to rapsody’s Idea of beautiful that just dropped? it was a great album her lyrics were on point and 9th wonder wasn’t fuckin around with those beats. Imma wait til this actually drops to list to it, but right now IMO rapsody has the best album this year

I think I’m gonna stop using my Numbers system for rating on Defsounds. Instead, I’ll just use words. ‘Good’, ‘Very Good’, ‘Great’, stuff like that.

    Lol. I don’t know. I might be. It’s just that people don’t get that I consider a 7 to be good. And I’m tired of explaining it. When I say ‘Good’… hopefully they’ll know I mean Good.

      Nah I feel ya. People get hung up on traditional grading with 7/10 being average. But think about it, is making 7/10 three pointers average? Hell no. However, for FTs it is. So its obviously not universal

Aight. After sitting with it a bit more… and allowing the excitement of the newness to wear off… here is my final rating for Lupe’s Album:

The options are: God-Awful, Bad, Forgettable, Mediocre, So So, Not Quite There, Average, Above Average, Good, Very Good, Great, Excellent, Classic.

And I’ve decided to rate the album as: ‘GOOD’. Someone else said it best: Way better than Lasers, but not better than F&L1 or The Cool. It’s a good CD with two or three standout songs, but also a string of four consecutive songs in the second half of the album that sound like fillers. All in all, I take back what I said yesterday: Nas, in my opinion, still has the edge for best album of the year.

    Ha. I’m not doing numbered ratings anymore. Creates too much divisiveness. I’m simply rating the album as ‘Good.’
    
    Unforgiveable Youth and Braveheart are both all right tracks, but I wouldn’t consider them stand standouts.

      i think he is saying future civilization will not be even able to understand today’s religions , maybe because there will be no religions in the future

        Maybe. Glad to see someone paying attention to the lyrics. I was just saying that from a strictly sonic standpoint (the way it sounds to my ears) the songs were cool. Not bad by any means. Just not great. But the only songs I think definitely should not have been on the album are ‘Heart Donor’ and ‘Battle Scars’. Heart Donor is definitely the worst song the album.

Better than lasers and the cool IMO. Pretty close to the first one. Very different in it’s style but the skill and lyricism is on point.
