The NBA has officially announced the sale of the Sixers to a group headed by billionaire Joshua Harris, and part of the new ownership group includes Philadelphia rapper/actor Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Joshua Harris gave a statement on the purchase of the team:

“My partners and I are thrilled to have become owners of the Sixers. It’s an honor to be part of this storied franchise. We want to build on the team’s momentum and be world class and cutting edge in everything we do.”

The NBA said its Board of Governors unanimously approved the sale of the team, and the deal is reportedly for $280 million.

As you may know, the entire exhibition season and first two weeks of the NBA regular season has been canceled due to the lock-out. The Sixers were scheduled to play seven games in the regular season’s first two weeks.
