It was big news when Shyne was released from prison, and former Def Jam chairman LA Reid flew to Belize personally to sign him to an insane deal that some say was close to $2 million. Well it looks as if the deal didn’t work out as Shyne has been dropped from Def Jam before having a chance to put out an album.
Now producer/engineer Ken Lewis who worked on Shyne’s Gangland album tells DX that Shyne has been dropped from Def Jam.
When asked about working with Shyne he says:
“Well, I mixed 18 songs for the upcoming album and produced two, but he got dropped from Def Jam [Records], and I haven’t heard from him since.”
Lewis continued speaking on Shyne being dropped:
“Yeah, that may not be common knowledge. [Laughs] That might get me in trouble. His release date was splattered as May 17 all over the world, but the day came and went, and I never heard from Shyne again. I don’t really know what happened to him, I just know that as far as I’m concerned, I’m not a part of that record anymore.”
Earlier this year it was announced Shyne also signed to Cash Money to release an album, but it has been quiet on all sides, I guess we will see if he releases his Gangland album through the Cash Money imprint.
