Earlier this week, it was reported that the family of Emmett Till called for the Pepsi Co. to drop Lil Wayne from Mountain Dew over offensive lyrics about the civil rights icon, which caused the rapper to write an apology to the Till family, which they said wasn’t cutting it.
Now, following the Till family’s response to Wayne’s apology, the Pepsi Co. has dropped the rapper from his endorsement deal with Mountain Dew.
The Pepsi Co. issued a statement on dropping Lil Wayne from his endorsement deal with Mountain Dew.
In the statement that was issued today, the Pepsi Co said that Lil Wayne’s “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.”
Following Pepsi’s statement, Sarah Cunningham, Lil Wayne’s publicist issued her own statement and said that Wayne and Mountain Dew parting ways was due to “creative differences.”
