Lil Wayne is following a similar sales strategy that Jay Z and Kanye West used to success with Watch The Throne, as Wayne will release Tha Carter IV digital only at select online retailers at midnight on August 29th following MTV’s VMA’s in hopes that his performance will boost opening week sales.

With the release of Watch Throne, KanYe and Jay waited a few days to release the physical copies after the digital version released exclusively on iTunes, but Lil Wayne’s album will be available in stores the same day as its digital release which is Monday, August 29th.

Lil Wayne spoke on his sales strategy as he says he is making history with the plan:

“I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope that I can open the door for others.”

Tha Carter IV will be available on iTunes, Amazon and other digital outlets at midnight on August 29th, while the physical album will hit stores later that day.
