As we reported earlier today, Lauryn Hill paid off her $900k tax bill just ahead of today’s tax evasion sentencing.
Although the tax bill was paid, she was still facing up to a year in jail for each of her three charges, but her lawyer was asking for a reduced sentence since the musician paid off her debt prior to sentencing.
It was reported that her attorney would ask for probation.
Now, Lauryn Hill had her day in a Newark, NJ courtroom, and it did not turn out good for the Grammy award winning artist as she has been sentenced to three months in federal prison.
According to WGCI, Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison for failing to pay taxes on about $1 million in earnings for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Hill gave a statement to the judge, and she said that she intended on paying the tax bill, but due to a period of time when she left the music business, she was unable to make any payments.
On top of her three-months in prison, Lauryn Hill has also been sentenced to three additional months of home confinement, which will be followed by nine months of supervised release.
Hill has been ordered to report to prison on July 8th.
