Jay-Z continues to make big moves outside of music as he announces his latest venture, which comes in the form of a sports agency.
As reported by ESPN, Jay-Z announced that he has launched a sports representation agency through a partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Hov’s branch of CAA will be known as Roc Nation Sports.
As Jay-Z launches Roc Nation Sports, his agency has already made its first big signing, and will be representing New York Yankees’ second baseman Robinson Cano.
Cano gave a statement on signing with Hov’s Roc Nation Sports agency:
At this point in my career, I am ready to take a more active role in my endeavors on and off the field. I am confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short- and long-term goals. I am making this important decision now so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates.
Sources close to Jay-Z tell ESPN that the Brooklyn rapper himself is planning to become a certified sports agent, first in baseball and eventually in basketball and football.
If Jay-Z’s plans move forward, and he begins representing NBA players, he would have to give up his small share of the Brooklyn Nets.
Jay-Z gave a statement on his new venture:
Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years
