As Def Sounds previously reported, MMG‘s Gunplay turned himself into jail on Tuesday morning on an outstanding warrant stemming from two charges, one of armed robbery and another for assault. At the time of the rapper turning himself in, we didn’t have very many details. Now Gunplay‘s lawyer speaks on the charges, why the rapper turned himself in and what he believes the outcome of the case will be.
Gungplay’s lawyer Mike Greico told HHW:
The likelihood of Gunplay being out by the weekend is slim to none. It was either he turned himself in, or if he performed this weekend (referring to Atlanta’s AC3 Fest) they would have just pulled him off the stage. He was in handcuffs at one point up in Atlanta (at the Hip Hop Awards) and they released him without knowing that they had a warrant. But they know now.
It gave us an opportunity to surrender him voluntarily down here in lieu of him sitting up in a jail in Atlanta for 30 days.
Grieco believes when all is said and done, the charges will be dropped:
My gut tells me he’s going to be exonerated on this. It’s going to take some time though. But for now he’ll be in the jail, he’ll be in the court tomorrow, he looks forward to clearing his name. He wants to get out there and get back in the game.
