As Def Sounds reported, former artist , born Trevell Coleman, confessed to shooting a man in 1993; however, when he turned himself in, Dep alleges he wasn’t aware that the victim had died as a result of the shooting.

In a jailhouse interview with the New York Post, Coleman states: I was surprised — for some reason, I really didn’t think that he died. Adding: When they told me, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m not going home after this.’

Coleman explained he confessed, despite objections from mother and girlfriend:

I told my mom and my girlfriend that I wanted to confess, and they both told me to leave it in the past, he said. [My girlfriend] is pretty peeved.

While repenting, Coleman hoped for closure: I thought that if I turned myself in, it might give me closure. I’m just trying to get right with God.

Adding: The only thing I regret is that I have to leave my kids.

Manhattan DA spokeswoman Erin Duggan says Coleman is now formally charged with murder, facing life in prison.
