As Def Sounds previously reported earlier today, Lil Wayne issued an apology to the family of Emmett Till over offensive lyrics that Wayne rapped on Future’s “Karate Chop Remix.” Now, the family of Emmett Till responds to the apology, and they’re not having it.
As reported by TMZ, the Till family the family does not view the rapper’s letter as a formal apology, and they don’t believe Wayne actually apologized for what he did.
Emmett Till’s cousin and founding director of the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation, Airickca Gordon-Taylor addressed Lil Wayne’s apology as she says:
While it’s commendable that he has vowed to respect the legacy of Emmett Till and his memory to ‘not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in his music,’ this statement falls short of an apology, as none is mentioned.
Lil Wayne has not yet addressed the Till’s family’s response to his apology.
