Task forces composed of local and federal law enforcement agencies return to investigate the 1997 murder case of rapper Christopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G.

According to CNN, a law enforcement officer close to the investigation claims that the unsolved case was reinvigorated months ago in light of new information. No further details were given.  The investigation includes the L.A. Police Department, L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, and the FBI.

Retired Los Angeles Police Detective Russell Poole, who worked on the cold case, told CNN that he believes Suge Knight was behind the murder, even though he was serving time on a probation violation. Suge Knight ordered the hit, says Poole.

Poole also added that he believes the murder was arranged by Reggie Wright Jr., who headed security for Knight’s Death Row Records.

Christopher Wallace was shot and killed on March 9, 1997, while sitting in the passenger side of a vehicle leaving a party in Los Angeles.
